Hearing that it is possible that the post of

Captain Superintendent of Police may shortly be vacant, I have the honour to request that this, my application for the same, may be forwarded for the consideration of the Secretary of State for the

Colonies.

I was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Police on 15th. March, 1901, and want through a course of training in India, which was subsequently accepted as a model for that of Police Probationers, wam the latter rank came into existence.

I was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police on

14th. January, 1912.

I have thus completed nearly 18 years' service in this Police Force, which, I think I am right in saying, is a longer continuous period than has been served by any previous

Police Superintendent.

I have passed examinations in Cantonese very

similar to those laid down for Officers of the Cadet Servico, and and have also passed in Hindustani and Punjabi.

5.

My knowledge of Hindustani has enabled me, during the Tar, to do a considerable amount of confidential work in connection with Indian Sedition in the Far East, and I vanture to say that these duties have been performed to the entire satis- -faction of the Secret Service Officer from the Punjab Police,

with whom I have been associated.

6.

It is possible that a Cadet Officer may be a Candidate for the post. Should he already be the holder of a First Mass appointment, a transfer to the Police would not be promotion
